Undated. Image shows Tong Road, (foreground) near to the junctions with Wellington Road, (bending round to the left in the background) and Oldfield Lane (behind the lamp post, right.) At the left edge is Hainsworth Street and then the Beech Hotel. After the pub is Copley Yard followed by numbers 4 and 2a Tong Road which adjoin the Crown Hotel around the corner. In the centre is the Yorkshire Penny Bank building and down the right-hand side of the bank is Copley Hill.

Your not far out John it was taken in 2008 by a mate of mine, he sent me a number of photos of New Wortley.Were the railings are now there was a sweet shop all the young kids from Green Lane would hang around Mr Wilson who ran the shop never botherd us, later on when we were in our teens we all give him our business,I used to stock up on chocolate when I rode my bike to Skegness for my holiday It was a cheap way to get there I would send all my gear on the train the week before.

On the corner where the railings are was a chemist Timothy Whites, then LAURY WILSONS, then a fish shop. On the corner at the other side of OLDFIELD LANE there was (tardis) a police box. I used to walk to work (1953)up OLDFIELD LANE to the rec. I did my early courting in the CROWN just over the road.

My Grandmother was born at Hainsworth Street in 1904. Could anyone tell me if there are any properties still standing from that period. She also spent time in Mount Saint Mary's Orphanage which i believe is still standing but now derelict.
