Wellfield House
April 1968. View of the substantial, stone-built Wellfield House, once the residence of the Hinchcliffe family. It was occupied for many years by Mr. Henry Scarth, the eldest son of textile manufacturer, Sir Charles Scarth of Laneside Mills. Wellfield House is situated off Victoria Road and Laneside Mills were located at the rear. Information from Bob Dennis. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.

Wellfield House was owned by Thomas Parker Crowther, He lived there from around 1866 with his family.He died at the age of 35 in 1876 and is buried at St Peters Churwell.After his passing his wife Sarah sold the house. Thomas was the son of David & Elizabeth Crowther who lived at Laneside House next door.
