Description: December 1968.
View of the Japa paper factory situated at Laneside Mills of Victoria Road. Japa is an acronym of 'Just Another Paper Article'. The firm moved into Laneside Mills in 1936 after their Hunslet premises were destroyed by fire. Among the paper and cardboard products they manufactured were boxes for packing locally grown forced rhubarb destined for the south of the country. The Howarth family, who owned the Japa business, resided in the nearby Wellfield House. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.
