Old Golden Fleece, painting by W.J. Monger
8th August 1956. Painting of the Old Golden Fleece in its new position in Elland Road. This building replaced the Old Golden Fleece in 1934. The painting is by W.J. Monger who was Headmaster of Churwell Junior School from 1945 to 1956. Photograph from the David Atkinson Archive.

Even this building has now disappeared. It was demolished sometime late in 2010. At this very moment (January 2011), a new structure is growing out of the remains. At the moment, I have no Idea as to what it is going to be. I doubt that it will be another pub.. I wonder if the builder will surprise us all, and build a block of flats?
