1957. Image shows a Ford Prefect car parked outside number 5 Albany Terrace. A young boy stands in the open doorway. Albany Terrace is situated off Whingate Road and the red brick terraced homes are back-to-back with Albany Place. These streets are opposite the site of West Leeds Girls High School.

I think this car is a 'Prefect' not a Popular. Post-War Pops' were marketed as small, low-budget two-door models. The front grille of the car shown here, intended it to look like that of its highly desirable and much bigger V8-engined sister, the Ford Pilot.

I don't think the car is a Prefect. As I remember they were 2 door cars. This might be a V8 Pilot. The Registration HE I think was Barnsley

Sorry Chippy, with respect, this is a 1947/48 Prefect. You are correct that 'some' Prefects were 2 door, especially the pre-war version affectionately known as the 'cottage-loaf'. A 'pilot' was a much bigger car, possibly based on the Canadian V8 Mercury, but that's only speculation on my part as Britain did not have V8 engines. Regardless of the number of doors, the 'Ford Popular' was a totally different shape to the car shown here. The headlamps sat on top of the wings, which themselves were joined to the engine compartment at a point much lower down than that shown here. The radiator grill, which was square on to the front of the car, was basically two separate long narrow vertical elongated ovals, which leaned back at an obtuse angle. There was also a rectangular air grill along either side of the engine compartment. There was no mascot on the bonnet. The car shown here is definitely a 'Ford Prefect'.
