Lower Briggate from Hunslet Road
2nd May 1982. View looks from Hunslet Road towards Bridge End and Lower Briggate. The tall building on the left is the rear of the former Leeds City Transport offices now the Malmaison Hotel. Also on the left there is a glimpse of Leeds Bridge and behind it the business of Alpha Music at numbers 10 to 18 Bridge End. In the centre is the Golden Lion Hotel at number 2 Lower Briggate which stands at the corner with Sovereign Street. Towards the right, in the middle ground, the railway bridge can be seen across Lower Briggate. The Spire belongs to Holy Trinity Church in Boar Lane. In the foreground, right, is the British Waterways building at the junction of Bridge End with Dock Street. Dominating the background is West Riding House at numbers 57 - 69 Albion Street. It opened in July 1974, and, until the completion of Bridgewater Place in 2005, it was the tallest structure in Leeds.
