South Gipton Community Centre, young pool players
4th February 1984. Image taken at the opening of South Gipton Community Centre in Coldcotes Grove. It shows some of the young local residents enjoying a game of pool. It was the official opening of the centre and Dennis Healey was the special guest. The community had campaigned over a long period of time for a centre and raised £5,000 towards the cost. The former nursery unit of Wykebeck Primary School was equipped with Pool and Table Tennis tables and Space Invader Games. Members of the local community were invited to drop in for drinks and snacks throughout the day. It was also the meeting place of local groups, including a dominoes group, a card group, Mums and Toddlers Group, a Junior and Senior Youth Club and Bingo sessions.
