Description:
Undated. Postcard view of the Seven Arches Aquaduct, built in 1837 to carry the water supply from Eccup Reservoir over Adel Beck on its way to the city centre. After 24 years it became inadequate to meet the needs of the city and was abandoned, but it remained in place and became a popular tourist spot in the middle of Adel Woods.

Looking at this postcard reminds me of the days we, as a family, walked over it. It appeared quite low when you first walked onto it then you realised that the drop from the middle was high. There was a little ledge at the side and my mother used to say that she could remember walking over the bridge when a lad was showing off and riding his bike on this narrow ledge. Needless to say he fell off!! and he and his bike landed in the trees. He was ok but mother used to relate this tale as we got closer to the highest point. You could not pay me to walk over it today and the H & S would have a fit.At least we were allowed to take risks in the good old days.
