Undated. View looking from Temple View Terrace to Temple View Road showing the Slip Inn in the centre. This public house was once known as the New Regent Hotel. The white building on the left of it is no.1 East Park View. In front of this is an electricity sub-station while on the far left are houses on Temple View Grove. The houses on the right are on Glensdale Grove.

Can't help much with a date for this photo, but Glensdale Grove is still on my old 1999 Leeds A to Z street atlas. I also remember playing in the Slip Inn's concert room and at The White Horse with my Pop Group - The Blue J's - in the 1960's. Two other regular Groups playing round east Leeds pubs were The Fendermen (named after their Fender guitars, I guess) and The Cresters.

I recall seeing the groups Les Billingham names at this venue, and many more besides. The singer from The Fendermen I think was called Albert, and was one of the founder members of The Grumbleweeds. There was also a group called The Crestas, but the one that stood out amongst the many who played there, were The Del-Chords who were the only ones I can recall on the circuit with a brass section.

I took this photo, in December 2009. As a student in the late eighties and early nineties I did a bit of voluntary work with elderly people in this area and had a couple of fantastic nights out there, when the pubs were so full it was impossible to get through the doors. have many fond memories of the slipp inn from the mid 1960s also does anyone out there rememeber the prospect on richmond hill and the band that was on there on sunday evenings i believe it was led by mike cox

My Grandmother, Gertrude Sammons who ran The Fleece Inn on York Road, was a friend of the Landlord and Landlady who ran The Slip Inn in the mid 1950's. They were called Eddie and Gladys Charlton of whom I have a photograph taken at what I believe is a Licensed Victuallers Ball. I was also a friend of their daughter, Ann, and stayed at The Slip Inn some weekends. It was a very busy pub then with many artists appearing at weekends. I remember in particular Ronny Dukes and Ricky Lee appearing. I also remember their sons Dean and Perry. I believe Eddie and Gladys later took The Welcome Inn at Tinshill and The Black Bull at Rothwell.
