Description: c1953.
Painting by Yorkshire artist, Pete Lapish depicting North Street. The artist points out that the destination of the tram on route 3 should be Roundhay and not Briggate as indicated. This highlights the problem at the time of children being able to change the information in the destination screens by winding on the brass winding handles. Nowadays, all that remains of this scene is the former Midland Bank building, Northwood House, which is Grade II listed and stands at number 195 North Street.
Some images by Pete Lapish are available to purchase as postcards or greetings cards from Leeds Visitor Centre - see our 'useful links' page.
