Queen Street, watercolour by Pete Lapish
Description:
c1920. Watercolour painting by Yorkshire artist, Pete Lapish, showing a tram climbing Queen Street. On the left the Maypole Grocery Store can be seen. This business is listed in Kelly's Directory of the West Riding of Yorkshire for 1917 as the Maypole Dairy Co. Limited, tea dealers, located at number 82 Queen street. The tower of Morley Town Hall dominates the background of the painting. Trams from Leeds to Morley ceased to run on 22nd January 1935, to be replaced by a bus service. Some images by Pete Lapish are available to purchase as postcards or greetings cards from Leeds Visitor Centre - see our 'useful links' page.
