Undated. View shows a brick produced by Jabez Woolley, brick manufacturer, of 147 Elland Road. This brick, which has the name 'Woolley' inscribed in it, was retained when the tram depot at Swinegate was demolished. Jabez Woolley's residence was in Garforth, at The Hollies on Church Lane, a house he built himself using his own bricks.

I remember the quarry and brickworks on Elland Road as Armitage's. Does anybody know if they bought the Wooley business or was it a different location?

I have quite a few of these bricks paving my garden path in Beeston. On one side it is "Woolley",the other is "JW".I also noticed some "Maltby Metallic" bricks amongst them.In the 1960's I was sent by my boss to Armitage's on Elland Road to buy 100 common bricks for 27/6d[£1.37-ish]. They didn't count them, just stacked them up 'til the van sat up and begged!
