Description: 1st January 2010. A wintry scene on Spen Lane showing the Hark To Rover public house, closed down and boarded up. Formerly a parade of shops, it opened up as a pub in 1963. The junction with Ghyll Road is just opposite. On the extreme right is Norman Towers, a multi-storey block of flats. User Comments: Name: Ron Davies Comment: I was there the night the pub was opened by Fred Trueman in 1963. Prior to the opening Camerons Brewery had delivered free drink vouchers to every house in the neighbourhood. On the same night Fred Trueman opened another pub identical to this one in Farnley. The old Hark to Rover had once stood near the junction of Spen Lane and Abbey Walk, there is still a row of cottages near the site of the old pub bearing the name.
