Description: 1970s.
Image shows the 'New Library' at Lotherton Hall. This was originally the dining room, designed for Colonel Frederick Richard Thomas Trench Gascoigne in the 1890s. A new dining room was completed in 1931 to the east side of the house and this room was then re-assigned as the library. A portrait of Colonel Gascoigne by Herman Gustav Herkomer is displayed above the chimney-piece. Lady Gascoigne's collection of china and delftware cows is displayed in the glass fronted showcase. The walls of the library are hung with a wool and flax damask. Through the open doorway part of the 'New Dining Room' is visible.
