Lower Town Street, no.112
Description:
Undated. View of no.112 Lower Town Street by the junction with Killingbeck Yard. Known as the Old House, this Grade II listed building dates from around 1600 and is occupied here by an antiques shop. A two-storey timber-framed cottage, it was altered in the 19th and 20th centuries with the outer walls rebuilt in course rubble stone. It escaped demolition when much of the surrounding area was redeveloped in the 1970s and is a rare example of a pre-industrial building.

The building to the right with the bricked up ground floor window was demolished but, of course, the old cottage remained. In this picture it was an antique shop. The old cottage is now a dwelling.

Janet Marsh? Are you at a descendent of Harold Marsh, the wonderful pet store keeper I remember from my choildhood in the 60's? I remember his old shop before it moved. It was a wonderful place. I seem to remember way back that this was a fish shop long before it was an antiques shop. I may be wrong, though.
