Prosperity Street, looking north-east
Description:
Undated. View of Prosperity Street looking north-east towards Oatland Lane. Back-to-back houses are seen on both sides of the road, numbering (from the far end) 1 to 15 on the right and 2 to 18 on the left. Taken on a Monday morning, traditionally a wash day, with washing hanging on a line stretched acrss the road. In the background the Globe Inn can be seen on Meanwood Road, the streets in between Oatland Lane and Meanwood Road having been demolished. Prosperity Street and those on either side of it were soon to be demolished too; the area is now taken up with Carlton View, Place and Grove.

Comment:
The white round domed building in the background is the roof of the Synagoge on Chapletown road and large blocky looking building with tall dark windows is what I think used to be called Jubilee Hall .It became the home of the Leeds Trades Council Club

In 1891, John William Wood, Brewer, his wife Elizabeth B.Wood(nee Liddle), and children Josiah, Elsie and Dorothea were living at no. 17 on the left (possibly the house where the washing is hanging).
