I find this photograph particularly fascinating as both my grandfather Henry Hepworth (back row) and my great-grandfather William Hepworth (front row) appear on it. My father (born 1912)worked as an engineer in Leeds being employed at Kirkstall Forge, Leeds Metal Spinning Company at Harding Rhodes Ltd., in Holbeck During WW2 he worked at the Avro factory next to what is now Leeds/Bradford Airport.

Note the guy sitting third from the right in the front row. He's wearing 'spats'. It's a long time since I saw anyone wearing those. I remember that there was a 'gentleman' in our street, right up to the very early 1950's, who was always smartly dressed, and always wore spats. I've never seen anyone wearing them since.
