The "Industrial Estate" is B.S.&W.Whiteley Ltd, paper mill, which in 1981 became Weideman Whiteley. The paper mill was started c.1762 by farmer and maltster John Milthorp (1725-1778)and eventually sold to Whiteley's in 1918 after renting in 1886 from the executor, Michael Nicholson Milthorp Snowdon who lived at the now demolished, Plainville, latterly Monkman's Bistro, Pool-in-Wharfedale, demolished in 2002 to become a small housing estate
