View of old shop properties located in Lower Town Street. On the left is the butcher's shop originally run by Harry Lister and his wife Emma at number 35 Lower Town Street. Harry's brother, Walter, was also a butcher and had a shop at number 266 Upper Town Street for 52 years. Various cuts of meat are on display in the window of number 135 and there are scales and paper carrier bags. At first floor level there is living accommodation. The daughter of Harry and Emma (nee Shaw) continued the business until her retirement in July 1975. She was also called Emma but was known to everyone as Kitty. Between the buildings, in the centre, is access to Farrar's Yard and number 137 Lower Town Street is at the right edge. The spire in the background belongs to St. Peter's Church in Hough Lane.
