I left Bramley Broad School in Hough Lane in 1948 and started work at Isles as apprentice vehicle mechanic together with two classmates Dennis Pontefract and John Wilks. In the event of the fuel shortages following the SUEZ WAR IN 1956 WE ALL got jobs with Leeds City Transport as Bus drivers. It was an excellent place for first class training in all engineering disciplines and enabled me to hold well paid work with British Leyland,Leyland Paint Co.Jaguar Cars and others.I have fond memories of tradesmen there who passed on their many skills .Thank you all. Mobile generaters were also made there and used on the Golden Mile Blackpool in the post war days.Servicing those in winter was not a pleasant job.
