Description:
1965. Image shows an ambulance driver about to get into his ambulance in Flax place. The Ambulance Station is situated in Flax Place between Saxton Lane and Mill Street. In the background are flats which are part of the Saxton Gardens Estate.

My great grandparents set up home in Bow St on the Bank at the end of Flax Place in the 1890s.When their daughter Jane Jackson married Joe Godfrey,they all moved on to pastures new in Reuben St, Camp Rd, Little London.Out of the frying pan comes to mind.Come 1939 the grandparents passed away and the houses were pulled down.Jane and her 3 grown ups moved 100m away to the adjoining back to backs where I was born.In 1957,due to overcrowding and slum clearance we were re housed to Saxton Gardens,Flax Place next to Bow St on the Bank.Just above this ambulance on the 3rd floor.
