Kirkstall Abbey, Double decker tram, number 289
23rd April 1912. Image shows tram number 289 photographed with Kirkstall Abbey in the background. The photo is thought to date from the time it was built, April 1912. It was one of a series of Hamilton designed trams, numbers 283 to 292, built between 1911 and 1912 at the Kirkstall Road Tramworks in Kirkstall Road. These were double-deckers with vestibules and open balconies on the top deck. The tram is pictured in Abbey Road.

Yes, this tramcar must have been pretty new when this photograph was taken. I have to say, that I have never seen one that has not been emblazoned with advertising.
