September 1939. Image shows an A.R.P. (Air Raid Precaution) ambulance photographed at Kirkstall Road Tram Works on the south-west side of Kirkstall Road in 1939. In this instance a saloon car, registration AKW 697, has undergone conversion to an A.R.P. ambulance. The body of the car is painted white at the lower edge so as to be visible during the black-outs.
