Tong Road, laying tram track
c1911. Image shows men at work laying a tram track in Tong Road. There are in the region of 20 men involved in the construction process. The original tramway had been a single lane with passing places every so often, but later a second lane was installed; this image is likely to be connected to the removal of a passing place and laying of the second track. Houses in the background are on Carr Crofts Terrace. On the left a man on a ladder is posting advertising bills. One of the adverts is for Summer Steeplechases at Blackpool, with £1500 in stakes. This section of tram track in Tong Road ran from near the junction of Copley Hill to Whingate, route number 10.
