Description:
Undated. Postcard view of Kirkstall Abbey showing an ornately carved wooden door which led from the cellarium to the cloister. Though the door bears a date of 1152 it was a 19th century addtion to the Abbey. It was later removed to prevent damage.

This image begs the question:- "Was this a copy of a much earlier door, or is it something dreamt up in the mind of some well intentioned 'Victorian Worthy'? I might be wrong, but there are aspects in the design that do not seem to lend themselves to the mid -12 century. When was this door removed? But more to the point, where was it taken to? Does it still exist, and if so, where is it now?
