Description:
c1908. Postcard with a postmark 7th August 1908 showing Barwick Road as it goes through Stanks. Several children can be ssen. The shop of J.W. Barrass, clothier and hosier, is on the right.

This is a fascinating photo of a scene that today is much changed. The scene is looking towards Leeds, and two of the landmarks seen here have survived. They are the buildings in the centre of the photo. The row of houses with the three chimneys, and the building jutting-out at a right-angle which is a Chapel. I believe that at this period, Barwick Road was a Turnpike, so the white building may also have been a Toll Booth.
