I was brought up in the Sandhursts and lived on Darfield Road when I got married and never realised the Dock Green pub had once been a police station, although the name gives it away of course!

We lived in Stanley Avenue immediately behind the police station from '57 to '69. I remember being shown round the cells and threatened with jail if we kicked our football into the station yard again. It sounds crazy but when we moved to Harehills it had a edge of town village feel about it. This was of course before the big estates at Gipton were built. I remember walking from home into the fields!
