This structure is what we as kids, knew as "The Old Mens' Shelter". The 'Old Timers' would spend there time in there playing cards, dominoes, chess, cribbage, or whatever, at tables which were arranged around a pot-bellied stove. We would be told in no uncertain terms to "Get Out" should we ever trespass into their domain on cold winter days to claim just a little of the warmth that they enjoyed. It wasn't always that bad though. On rare occasions we would be allowed to linger - "If we kept quiet". Keep quiet!!! We were kids. We couldn't do that, and it would be only minutes before we would find ourselves outside and back into the icy winter weather. And don't forget that we wore short trousers all the year round back then. It would be interesting to learn as to when this lovely structure was taken down. Did they keep all the parts? If so, could there be any chance that we could see this shelter up and running again? The structure in the distance can be identified asThe Band-Stand. It was the only structure in the park to have a dome.
