Armley Ridge Terrace
Undated. Image shows Armley Ridge Terrace, possibly taken when they were quite newly built. The residents, in late Victorian/Edwardian style dress have all come out of their homes for the photograph. At the time the terrace of stone built houses was owned by Mr George Ballinger who is listed in the Kelly's Directory of 1913 as living at number 3. This photograph came from the Ballinger family. The houses are numbered from left to right, 6 to 1. The lady standing alone outside no.3 may be the wife of the photographer, Mrs Catherine Bollinger. The couple at no.6, far left, have a baby in a perambulator and next door at no.5 a young woman holds the hand of a toddler. At the entrance of no.4 is possibly Martha Dickinson. She lived with her two unmarried daughters (seen in the garden), Amelia and Alice, both dressmakers. The grassed area in the foreground was eventually divided into strips to provide a garden for each dwelling. Armley Ridge Terrace is situated off Armley Ridge Road, opposite Gotts Park. Armley Ridge Road is at the right edge.
