Middleton Woods, tram no. 276
Description:
Undated. View shows tram no. 276 in Middleton Woods on route no. 12 to Middleton. Tram 276 was a post-war car built at Kirkstall Road Works. Constructed using much second-hand material, it was intended to be the prototype for a new fleet of trams but ended up being one of a kind and had the distinction of being the last double-deck tram to be built at Kirkstall Road. It was built in 1947-48 and first ran in service on 20th September 1948.

my uncle, willie shackleton, used to drive a tram on this route.from memory the trams were blue in colour not seen on other routes. i once met a real tram enthusiast, here in oz, who was most interested in this, because these particluar trams were well know in trammie circles.

As a child, living in Cross Flatts Row, Beeston in the late 1940s, from our bathroom window (about 2 miles away) I could see the trams as they ran on the track just below the water-tower. It was a bonus to see two at once as they passed each other. I can remember the shape of the big tree on the skyline above the track.
