Machines with rollers are visible in the background, right. Nearest the camera is John Charles Hill who was born in 1890 in Kirkstead, Lincolnshire. His family moved to Leeds in the late 19th century and settled in the Woodhouse area. We would welcome any information as to which of the local tanneries this is. In another image (ID: 2012109_174080) John Charles Hill is pictured with other members of the "Bus Vale" Rugby League Football Club outside a beer house at number 240 Meanwood Road. The nearest tannery to this location would have been Broadhead & Conyers, curriers, known as Buslingthorpe Tannery. This was quite close, being situated between the junctions of Penraevon Place and Terrace and Jameson Street and Penraevon Grove and Avenue.
