The houses have since been demolished and the area is now taken up with the Penraevon Industrial Estate; the church building still exists but has been converted to a warehouse

I was a very small child living on this street at the time this photo was taken. We were at number 13 – you can just make out our outside loo door at the left edge of the photo. We also had an inside toilet and bathroom up in the attic. My dad bricked up the door in the yard and knocked a new door through from the kitchen, which was a tiny room taking up up the rest of the lean-to extension – or at least the rest of the half of the extension that was ours. There was a dividing wall down the middle of each block as it was split between two terraced houses. The houses themselves were tiny, two-up two-down affairs. There was no hallway - the front door (not shown) opened straight into the front room. The houses had attics (providing a third bedroom and a bathroom in our house) and also had cellars, and were considered a bit upmarket from the rest of the Penraevon streets which ran at right angles to Dargai Street and Penraevon Street, as each of the through-terrace houses had its own outside toilet. The most of the rest of the streets in the area were back-to-back housing and shared a 2-space toilet yard between 8 houses. We left the area in 1975, and I think the houses were knocked down within a year or two.
