My goodness never thought to see these ladies again, Mrs Dawson was a lovely lady, I also remember Miss Margettes and Mrs Wilson, these were my years at this school, with Vivian Best, Pat Slattery, Ann Patterson and the list goes on, such a long time ago but brings back many memories.

The lady in the centre of the image is the headmistress, Mrs Dawson. The previous headmistress was Mrs Wilkinson. On her left is Miss Gladys Margets, she was my form teacher for two years. I owe her a great debt, she coached me for 13+ which I passed and went on to Stainbeck Secondary Modern where I sat GCEs which opened up career choices. She was a kind, dedicated teacher, mildly eccentric she often talked to herself! I left Meanwood Road school in 1959.

Andrea, yes, I do remember the name of your cousin and think we were in the same class but I can't recall any details about her. My maiden name was Christine Stewart. The classes were segregated when pupils were nine, Mrs Wilson gave her class specific coaching to get them through 11+, when the other children took the preliminary paper they didn't have the appropriate skills in maths and English to pass. Many of the pupils were thus denied the chance of further education.

I had forgotten Mrs Wolfe Lorna which is really sad as I went out with her son Guy some years later, small world, he was really nice and would often borrow her bubble car, fun times
