Tempest Road, Holy Spirit Church Hall

Tempest Road, Holy Spirit Church Hall
1989. View of Tempest Road showing the Church Hall of the Church of the Holy Spirit, at the junction with Maud Avenue. The building on the right is the Trinity Methodist Church. In the background is a shop at no.111 Lodge Lane, by the corner with Stratford Terrace, on which the terraced houses leading off in the centre are situated.

The Church Hall is sadly no more, having been replaced with a modern blockwork structure (Building Blocks day nursery). Most of the building on the right has also been taken down during conversion to the Hamara Centre, although bits of the Tempest Road frontage remain. The corner shop in the centre of the image is happily still trading. Although the Holy Spirit Church has now been closed for some years and the Grade II Listed building faces an uncertain future, the completion of the new Mosque to the north of the church will shortly put this area between Tempest Rd and Lodge Lane back at the centre of the spiritual life of Beeston.
