Description: c1960's.
A young girl is photographed standing in Modder Place, the street where whe was born in 1954. The red brick terraced homes are visible at the right-hand side and she lived with other members of the Bransby family at number 18, the very end of the row of two-bedroomed back-to-backs. She is on an expedition to the shops and carries a purse, a straw basket and a gondola basket. People living in this area at the time would haved shopped in Armley Town Street but there was also Ridsdale's Grocer's at nearby number 27 Station Road. In the background is Carr Crofts, a huge iron works which housed Blakey's Boot Protectors Ltd. The firm manufactured rubber soles, heels and toe plates for shoes and boots and belt fasteners. Behind the iron works are the railway lines with Armley Moor Station close by. The station closed in 1966.
