Description:
October 1983. Looking along Wellington Road at the junction with Driver Street. No.57 Wellington Road is on the corner; this former shop is here boarded up and soon to be demolished. Its previous occupants have included Harry Hyman, draper. An advertising hoarding on the wall is promoting Sunbrite, described as 'Britain's Best Selling Roomheater Fuel'.

i`m not too sure here but i think there was a shop next door that was a french polisher and may be one to do with tropicl fish

MCC Tyres and Exhausts now stands on this site. Amazing to think that The Railway Club is still going strong after the advent of pub closures in and beyond Leeds. I probably went past this in the car with my Mum and Dad but it isn't something I remember....I was about 11 months old.

At the time of this photo the shop (a former surgery of Drs. Thornton and Gaunt)was an upholsterers (Vic Smith) there was no shop next door still a bombed out open space the dentists had been turned into a tropical fish/pet store. I cannot remember what happened to Burns Chemist that could have been the French Polishers. The last shop was formerly Drivers Furnishers then Mick's Doors then Parkers second hand store. Hope this helps John.
