Blenheim County Secondary School, new library
Summer 1955. Image shows pupils of Blenheim County Secondary School in Blenheim Walk in the recently converted school library. There are a number of tables for reading and study and two boys are engrossed in a game of chess. The library contained around 1600 books and half of these were non-fiction. Sporting trophies, including a shield, are on display on top of the shelving.

I was born in January 1948, so this picture was taken a few years before I attended Blenhieim, but the library is exactly as I remember it. Even the shield on the wall. Wonderful, I remember reading my first ever book in this library. It was 'Swallows and Amazons'. In many ways it was a good school, but a lot of caning and slippering went on. I often went home with a red arse that I was too scared to my parents.
