Sherburn Road, looking towards high-rise flats
2001. View looking down Sherburn Road showing the junction with Sledmere Croft on the left. The fire station building is at the bottom of the hill, by the junction with Stanks Drive which runs across from left to right. Beyond this a series of high-rise flats dominate the background. These are (from left) Langbar Towers (top just visible), Langbar Grange, Ash Tree Grange, Pennwell Croft, Ash Tree Court, Brayton Grange and Farndale Court. These were all to be demolished at periods within the next 5-6 years, leaving only Sherburn Court (off the picture to the right) still standing. Image courtesy of Leslie Cole.
