This prefab would be between Cottingley Approach and Cottingley Crescent just up from Bill Leafs shop . At the left you can see the Coal shed which would have been in Croft's garden was it Barry and Philip ? This chap must have had green fingers getting such a good garden in the small time the prefabs would have been lived in in 1951 .

Yes, you are right about where the prefab was, we lived on the Crescent and looked onto the side of this prefab and Philip and Barry Croft lived opposite, that is their coal shed. A little tale, the house we lived in was a corner house and therefore had a slightly larger garden. My dad was no gardener, but like most other people it was filled with veg, flowers and a grassy garden where I had a swing. Dad used to start work early and on coming home we had a running commentary regarding this garden, it was always beautiful and privately my dad used to moan as the man was in his garden as he went to work, every morning if the weather was fair. Like Brian, I wonder at the work he must have put in as we went to live there in 1947 and the houses were new. The land was thick with clay, and when I was a toddler my mum lost me! she was running up and down the Crescent asking if anyone had seen a fair girl dressed in white dungarees. When she found me I had been at the back of the coal house eating clay. What a delight. Poor mum, it is not until you are a parent yourself that you realised the sacrifices that were made for you.
