Sherburn Road, looking towards high-rise flats
2001. View looking south-east down Sherburn Road towards Stanks Drive with the fire station on the left and a bus shelter in the centre. The background is dominated by 7 blocks of high-rise flats : from left, Langbar Towers, Langbar Grange, Ash Tree Grange, Pennwell Croft, Ash Tree Court, Brayton Grange and Farndale Court. These blocks were all built in 1965-66, some with 12 storeys and some with 15, and all were to be demolished in the early 2000s : Brayton Grange and Farndale Court in 2001, Langbar Towers and Ash Tree Grange in 2003 and Langbar Grange, Ash Tree Court and Pennwell Croft in 2006.
