Description: 2003.
View of Langbar Towers on Swarcliffe Avenue during the process of demolition. A giant crane with a high reach is seen which was needed to cut away at the structure at the top, as a controlled explosion was not possible due to the proximity of other housing. The demolition process began in July 2003 and was expected to take around 5 weeks. Ash Tree Grange was also demolished that year, while 8 other tower blocks met the same fate at other times during the 2000s. One of these, Langbar Grange, which was demolished in 2006, is seen in the background. Image courtesy of Leslie Cole.
