I provided Leodis with this picture after coming across it whilst clearing the loft. I would be interested to hear from anyone who can update me on any of the "lads" in the picture

As a member of the team I remember playing in the final and still have the medal to prove it. However, I thought we lost the match 1-0 (maybe my memory is failing me) and so were runners-up rather than winners. Nevertheless, the final was played in those days at Elland Road, home of Leeds United. I remember clearly going out on to the pitch at the start of the game and was amazed how big the pitch seemed - it was immense. What an experience! I think the photograph was taken in the garden of Burton House on Burton Avenue, Hunslet. I also once went with Mick White on the train to Derby with, I think, Brian Westerman to watch Leeds United play Derby at the Baseball ground. Mick was a nephew of the great John Charles who had just returned from Juventus to play for Leeds. At the ground, Big John came outside and gave Mick tickets for us to get in to see the match. What a treat for us.

Mick, Glad to hear from you again. Sorry about my confusion regarding your relationship with Big John. However, I have been in touch with the present Cockburn School (which used to be Parkside in our schooldays) about the match and Peter Nuttall, the Director of Community Relations, has kindly given me the following extract from the school magazine of 1962: “FOOTBALL Under 13s: Under the captaincy of Hardy, the School had a successful season, winning all but two of their games. Unfortunately, one of these defeats was by Green Lane (1-0) in the final of the Falkingham Trophy, when the team gave its worst display of the season.” As you point out, there is a trophy on the ground. Was it a runners-up trophy perhaps, or something else?

Mick: I wonder if the trophy was linked to the successfu season - league cup winners? I don't remember. Like you the grey cells are not what they used to be. Only person on the photo I've seen in 'recent' times was Jimmy Waterstone. It was about 5 or 6 years ago. He was still living in Leeds and working for BT. He was going to retire soon after I saw him. Don't know about any of the others though.
