Description: 1971.
View shows the Garden Gate public house on Waterloo Road, taken around the time that this historic building was threatened with demolition as part of a redevelopment plan for the area. Fortunately it was saved and became a Grade II listed building as well as a Tetley's 'Heritage' Inn. In more recent years it was again threatened with closure before being taken over by local independent brewers the Leeds Brewery in 2010. At the same time the pub was upgraded to Grade II* status by English Heritage.
