Garden Gate, Tap Room
1971. Interior view of the Garden Gate public house on Waterloo Road showing the tap room. This historic pub, now owned by the Leeds Brewery, was upgraded to Grade II* listed building status by English Heritage in 2010. Its curved ceramic bar counter, seen here, one of only 14 surviving nationally, was given as one of the main reasons for the upgrade.

Still looks the same today, wish the prices were the same

I have a fond memory of that pub.I was playing darts for The Ebor away one monday night against The Garden Gate.It was 1986 i was only 17.I was a good player back in the day.I played my game and won but i was very lucky as the chap i played missed 9 darts at a double.(i did have a bad game but i won)We won the match 6 to 4.After the game the same guy i had beat whom was about 6ft 3 well built(he said he was ex army sgt)asked me for 1 game of 501 for a fiver(thats like £25.00 these days i guess).Ok i said so i played him and hit a 10 dart leg. Winner again!so he paid up and off i went to the toilet.Unbeknown to me he followed me in.I said to my mate in the toilet i have just taken that bloke i beat in the match for a fiver and been the cocky so n so i was started laughing.I turned round and the guy who i had beaten at darts attempted to head butt me but slipped as he did so head butting the condom machine and all the condoms fell out.It sure was not his night.I quickly made a sharp exit after that.Good days i should write a book called 1980s monday night was darts match night. It would be packed with funny storys i tell you.
