Description:
1955. View shows a gold-plated Daimler belonging to socialite Lady Docker which was in for service at Appleyards garage at the junction of Chapeltown Road and North Street. Lady Docker, born Norah Royce Turner, was well known for her extravagant lifestyle and was married three times to company executives, most notably to Sir Bernard Docker, chairman of the Daimler Motor Company. Ithink you will find the garage was Appleyards of Leeds,both my sister Marie Brown (nee Mcgrail) and her husband George Brown worked Appleyards for many years

There was a lot of comment about Lady Docker and her extravagant lifestyle at the time. I seem to recall that at least one of her cars had gold-plated fittings, and mink fur covering the seats. I remember that there was a satirical "quasi-revolutionary" song which might occasionally be heard among young drinkers in the pubs.. It was entitled "When THe Red Revolution Comes". It was sung to the tune of 'Glory Glory Halleluja, and one of the verses ran - "We'll make Lady Docker drive a corporation bus. Oh, we'll make Lady Docker drive a corporation bus. We'll make Lady Docker drive a corporation bus, When The Red Revolution Comes. Glory, glory halleluja. Glory, glory halleluja. Glory, glory halleluja. When The Red Revolution Comes. There were many other irreverent verses, about many other people, of course, but each one was worthy of only one verse.
