Blenheim Square, from Blackman Lane
c1976-81. View looking across Blenheim Square from the direction of Blackman Lane, taken sometime between 1976 and 1981. Rows of terraced housing are seen along the north-west (left) and north-east (right) edges of the square.

The name, Blenheim Square, seems to be a contradiction in terms. All the maps I have seen so far, show it as being 'Ovoid' in shape. Even way back in the early 19th century, when the this part of Leeds was still quite rural, that particular spot is shown on the old maps as being 'ovoid' in shape. Does anyone know why this was?
