New Hunslet RLFC, team photograph

New Hunslet RLFC, team photograph
Description:
1977-78. View shows the New Hunslet RLFC team for the season 1977-78. On the back row, left to right, are Gary Kemble, Tony Halmshaw, George Standidge, Alan Griffiths, Linsay Proctor, Stuart Smith and Frank Davies (captain). At the front are Steve Barron, Drew Broatch, Rudi Francis, Roy Appleyard, Murray Netzler and Paul Briers. New Hunslet RLFC was formed in 1973 following the winding-up of Hunslet RLFC after the demolition of their ground at Parkside and the lack of a financially viable new stadium. The club's resurrection was largely a result of the efforts of their former player Geoff Gunney along with local businessmen and supporters.

Hi everyone - It would appear that this photograph was taken at the old Elland Road Dog Track, where Hunslet played for a while. I believe that, at about this time, the stadium was also used for playing American Football. - Ian

Drew Broach played for Leeds RLFC before joining Hunslet. He signed from scotish rugby union club Hawick. For a while he was the coach at the rugby club where I was a member, West Park Bramhope, now West Park Leeds. I once had the pleasure of playing alongside Drew when we were the centres in a Boxing Day match, when us veterans took on our colts side. Although we were all 'a bit long in the tooth' Drew still had a touch of class.

Happiest of days in the late 70's at the Dog Track. Does anyone know where I can find more pics from this era?
