c1910. View of Woodhouse Lane, looking north, with the Free Library building in the centre of the picture, at the junction with Reservoir Street, later Clarendon Road. On the right can be seen, from right, the premises of WH Dolby, ironmongers at number 194, EA Sadler, stationer at 196, JS Aspin, watchmaker at 198, and HN Kirtlan, confectioner, at 200. On the left can be seen the junction with Cemetery Place, followed by J Demaine, butcher, at number 211, Singer Sewing Machine Company at 213, T Simpson, grocers, at 215, and James Rennison, tobacconist, at 217. After the junction with Cemetery Street can be seen George Briggs, chemist, at number 221. A cart bearing the name T Simpson is parked outside the grocers premises, and the spire of St Augustine's church is visible in the distance.
