Rock Inn, Jenner Street
Undated. Image shows the Rock Inn at number 15 Jenner Street, Burmantofts. The woman standing in the doorway is likely to be the licensee, Mary Whittam, and the boy her son Jack. Mary was licensee at the Rock, which was licensed for beer only, from 1927 to 1936. Prior to that the licensee was Thomas Whittam, and it is likely that Mary took over after the death of her husband in 1926. The whole area was demolished in the 1960s as part of a major slum clearance programme, and the Shakespeare Primary School now occupies the site.
