Woodpecker Inn, bomb damage
1940. View shows the new Woodpecker Inn, at the junction of York Road and Marsh Lane, undergoing rebuilding work after being damaged during the air raid on Leeds on the night of 31st August 1940, when a small number of bombs fell on the area. The inn opened in 1939, replacing the old Woodpecker Inn on the opposite side of the road junction, and was itself demolished in 1990 during construction of the Quarry Hill road junction.
